Things have been a bit more chaotic around here than usual. I just finished up a desk for a client and have been working on a giant china hutch. Topher had been out of town for a few days, and I've been doing a bit of redecorating upstairs and downstairs. I realized I hadn't shown you my little Valentine's Day vignette I a did a few weeks back, and since V-Day is on Saturday, I figure it's now or never. I'm trying to stick with my plan of not spending money on my decor this year and using ... VIEW POST
Valentine’s Day Vignette
How to Make a French Image Transfer
Happy Monday everyone!! I hope you all had the beautiful weather we had! I got so much spray-painting finished and even took some photos outside ... even though everything is dead. We watched This is Where I Leave You which was really good. Our new carpet in the basement was installed, is incredibly gushy, and Gracie our pup keeps rolling all over it, so even she knows it's a lot better. We then had to carry all of the furniture back down and reassemble everything, which took a lot of time. ... VIEW POST
5 Ways to Stop Shopping in the New Year
I mentioned a few weeks ago how we were determined to get rid of our credit card debt ASAP, and I showed you How We Save $749 a Year By Cutting Out Cable and Still Get to Watch the Shows We Love. My next step was to figure out how to stop shopping. I am the one in our household that buys for myself, my hubby, the unnamed child, the pets, and our home. By cutting down these expenses, to only the necessities, I knew it would help get things back on track. 1. Stay Home. When I ... VIEW POST
Rustic Heart Wall Art (10 Days of Valentines)
What's Valentine's Day like for you and your sweetheart? Are there big elaborate gifts? Or fancy dinners out? For my hubby and I, the days of waiting 2 hours to get a table, or spending $100 on some roses that will die in a week are a thing of the past. For us, Valentine's day is usually spent at home. I'm sure you're thinking how boring can you be? One of us will make dinner for the other (a little fancier than our normal cuisine), and we do a small gift exchange, then settle down to ... VIEW POST
How to Shop Your Home (a Three Month Decorating Challenge)
Welcome to our new series, where some of my blogging buddies and I show you how we decorate a new space without spending a dime. We will each choose a space in our homes and show you, over the next three months, three different ways to decorate it using only items that we already own. As soon as I took my Christmas decor down, my first instinct was to go out and buy some new goodies to decorate with. My hubby and I had made a pact, starting at the first of the year, that we were going to ... VIEW POST
Stenciled TV Console Makeover
I kind of feel bad. Most of my readers and blogging friends are in the middle of a blizzard, and here in Kansas it has been 70 degrees. I have been walking the pups, spray painting outside, opening-up the windows, and grilling-up burgers and hot dogs like it's Spring. Before you get too jealous, though, know that today is the last day of this glorious weather before we too take the plunge. They are calling for snow here on Saturday. Just like the saying goes, if you don't like the weather in ... VIEW POST
Vintage Cabinet turned Laundry Hamper
A few weeks, ago I showed you how my laundry room went from this to this I can't believe how much better the room feels now. The only thing it was lacking was a place to stash the dirty clothes. I didn't want to have big laundry baskets sitting on the floor, and I wasn't able to build shelves or mount a cabinet because if we ever needed to pull out the washer out, the space is too small to work around a large piece of furniture. My parents went to an estate sale the other day ... VIEW POST
