Don’t you just love summer? The kiddos out of school, sleeping in, grilling out, days lounging by the pool.
Today I’m also enjoying getting together with my friends for the Welcome Home Summer Tour!
We are all opening up our homes to show you some of our new summer decor.
I’ve always been a little stumped by summer decor.
When you are decorating for holidays it’s easy, trees and reindeer for Christmas, bunnies and eggs for Easter, etc. For summer, what do you really do besides adding some flowers or bold pops of color that don’t really go with my decor?
This summer, I decided to add some soft pops of color and just keep things classic and authentic to the style of my home.
For my mantel, I always have the giant gold frame as a base (since Topher nearly killed himself hanging the million pound albatross he said it stays put until either he dies or we move … whichever comes first). The thing I don’t like about my mantel is that everything is one color. The mirror, the wood, and the beige walls all kind of blend in together.
Until I wear Topher down on letting me paint the mantel, I have to find other ways to incorporate color. On top of the gold frame, I layered two vintage, painted frames to break things up. I also added in two aqua glass bottles that I had with some pink pops of color from the flowers. Last I flanked the ends of the mantel with some a large and small set of gorgeous candlesticks from Balsam Hill. They have the perfect touch of silver leafing on them, and they just finish off the mantel beautifully.
I wanted just a little something more to tie everything together, so I made this super easy burlap bunting using the white and the aqua colors that were in the frames.
A couple of weeks ago, I showed you my new armoire makeover. It was a shocking makeover for two reasons: One being that it had sat in my basement in storage for two years, and the fact that I finally got to it before Topher took it to the dump was astounding in itself. Two being that it was a piece that I actually decided to keep it for myself (that my friends never happens).
It sits right beside my newly decorated summer mantel, and I love that it also coordinates. Balsam Hill also sent me a set of these beautiful outdoor lanterns that I decided to use indoors for now.
The top of the armoire seemed the perfect place to use them! They are a great, heavy weight, so if you use them outdoors you won’t have to worry about them tipping over in the wind.
I know most people associate Balsam Hill with being the company with all of the amazing Christmas trees (which I hope to someday have). They are that, but they also have fabulous, year round home decor which I am absolutely thrilled with.
The pieces I got are timeless and classic, and I will be using them for years to come.
**I received products from Balsam Hill for this post, but all opinions are my own.

I love how you styled your lanterns to flank that pretty horse on top your armoire – so pretty! Totally crushing over those silver leafed candlesticks too. Your mantle is styled so beautifully from the hits of turquoise vases to that fabulous banner.
So beautiful! I LOVE your fireplace vignette! Your Balsam Hill candlesticks are perfect!
hi Shanna, I LOVE your beautiful mantel and the pretty pops of color. It is fabulous and the candlesticks are gorgeous along with the blue glass and pink flowers. The styling says summer for sure and that Nest Banner is too cute too. Have a great week, Lisa
Those lanterns look perfect on top of your armoire and the candlesticks on your fireplace are gorgeous. I also think that summer decor can be tough unless you want to do a beachy theme. Your room looks great!
Love your summer mantel! The colors are fab as are the candle sticks.

Lanterns and candlesticks are great things from Balsam Hill and they have infinite possibilites. They are my favorites too. What a great idea to use the lanterns to flank the rockinghorse on the top of the armoire. I also loved that you added some greens to the books, nice touch. Also, the way you used the thread of a warm blue, not quite aqua, in various places in your home is so creative.
Thank you so much Dagmar! I love all of my new Balsam Hill goodies! I’ve been coveting your Christmas trees for years and would love to work with you again in the future!
