Tuesdays With Topher: What to Name Your Blog Baby?

I’m back for my second installation of the “Tuesdays with Topher” experiment. Thanks for stopping by.

Last week, I shared an abbreviated history on how Restoration Redoux came about, but I cut it short before discussing the naming process. It should become pretty clear why if you scroll down… (I tried to keep it brief — I promise).

When it comes time to name your blog, it might be the simplest task you’ll have to tackle because you’ve had the epiphany, you love it, and there’s nothing else that would be as perfect. But for some people, like us, it might be more challenging than naming your own kid.

About 18 years ago, Shanna and I were pretty deep in 24/7 conversations about what to name the unborn child (despite what Shanna says … she really does have a name)….

Rustic Pottery Barn Console Table Knockoff

Today is Themed Furniture Day!!!

If you’re new to the blog, I’m part of a furniture tour where my friends and I choose a different theme each month and come up with our own interpretations. This month’s theme was Pottery Barn. Now I love Pottery Barn as much as the next guy, but quite frankly, I am too cheap to pay their prices.

I had been wanting to make a console table like the one below for quite awhile. When my brother told me that he had lots of leftover wood from tearing down his fence, I knew this would be the perfect project to use them on.

I don’t have a blueprint on how I made this because I wasn’t entirely sure this was going to work out. My brother and I just kind of winged it as we went along….

Tuesdays With Topher, Part 1: Our Story.

I’ve got big news!!! My other half is taking over the blog today! Well actually he will be taking it over several times a month! We are starting a new series called Tuesday’s With Topher. Where I am the visual part of the blog, Topher helps me from time to time with the behind the scenes work. So we thought it might be fun if he gives some little lessons on how to get a blog up and running!

Hey there! This is Topher (AKA Mr. Restoration Redoux).

I kind of have a rough idea of things I want to cover … but I promise you, you aren’t going to get design advice from little ol’ me. I can move it. I can fix it. I can sand it. I can sometimes help paint it. And I can help photograph it. But the vision is all Shanna’s, and I continue to be impressed at her eye for the right colors, how artfully she distresses a piece to make it look perfectly aged, and how she can stage something to make it look like it’s been in a home for years.

She’s the designer. I’m the help….

Pinterest Party Friday #98

Happy Friday everyone!!!

It’s been beautiful here this week! I am so in love with Spring! All of the flowers are blooming and everything is green again.

This weekend I plan on finishing-up a secretary I have been working on forever, and Topher will be spraying some bookshelves that we have had in ~~hoard~~ storage for eons … if the weather cooperates. The unnamed child is getting last minute things ready for prom next weekend, and next week I will be running around picking-up her dress from alterations, getting nails done, eyebrows waxed, and a spray tan. It HAS to be sooo much cheaper to have a boy on occasions like these.

Plaster Painted Ivory Server

Happy Hump Day everyone!

I just want to thank you all for your sweet emails and comments on my health the last few weeks. To answer your questions … things aren’t back to normal yet. I’m still having kidney pain, running a fever, and having massive fatigue. I did get an appointment with a nephrologist, which is good, but not until next week. Next week may not seem like a long time, but when you are in constant pain (and have been for 4 weeks), a week seems like a really, really long time. Until then I am continuing to drug myself up, which I don’t like since I can’t work or drive, and it’s tough on my kidneys to have to filter all of this stuff through.

I did have a project almost finished before all this started, and on a day where I was high as a kite I forced myself to finish it up. My furniture booth is looking like a ghost town these days and I needed to get something new in there.

My parents gave me this server a while back, and although it was pretty, it was really scratched up….
