Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend!
Us … not so much. Nothing bad happened, per se, but we just did a ton of work. We hauled tons of stuff to my new storage unit, cleaned all of the windows in the whole house, finished up reorganizing my studio, got everything pulled out of my office / craft room, got it cleaned up, finished some new bookshelves, and got everything put back and looking fancy.
Somewhere in between all that, we went out to dinner for our anniversary. By the time Sunday night rolled around Topher was looking forward to going back to work, so he could relax.
Today is going to be a day filled with painting, as I am trying to upcycle some of this hoarded furniture.
Speaking of hoarded furniture, I found this old dresser / cabinet at a yard sale last summer for $20.
If you follow me on Instagram you have already had a sneak peek of this piece. If you know the real name of this sucker, please leave me a comment down below.
This guy was in some seriously bad shape. Scratched to bits, and none of the doors or drawers wanted to shut right. I also sanded several pounds of petrified dirt off of it (at least I hope it was dirt).
You all know how I usually like to use chalkpaint or Plaster Paint on most of my pieces, but on some of the really old ones, like this, I think milkpaint makes the makeover look a little more authentic to the time period. Not that you can’t use milkpaint on furniture of any era, it’s just that I am easing my way into the milkpaint world.
My girl Becky from Junque sent me her new color, Gypsy, to try out.
Topher helped me out getting the drawers back into alignment, and once I had all of the filth off I got to work.
I used three coats of paint. I LOVED all of the different pigments in this paint. It gave it a textured look and almost looked like worn blue jeans.
Once the paint was dry, I went back and used a wallpaper scraper to remove any of the loose or chipped off paint.
Then I went and coated the whole piece in Junque Furniture Sealer.
I then spraypainted the hardware an antique gold and was good to go!
I like this piece so much I might hang on to it for awhile!
