Happy Friday everyone!!!
Sorry I’ve been MIA this week, strep and this almost 40-year-old body were at war the entire time. I’m still not well, but I’m better than I was a week ago.
I’ve got a fun makeover for you today! A while back I was contacted by Hickory Hardware and asked to take part in an IKEA Rast Challenge. They would send me the IKEA dresser, and I would make it over.
I thought it sounded fun so I told them to send it my way!
Now I have never been to IKEA before (I know … Gasp)! One just opened 3 hours from me, and I hope to remedy this soon. A lot of their furniture pieces are very simple and plain and come unassembled.
While I was sick, Topher put it together for me to help me see what I was working with.
As I said, it’s pretty bare bones and simple. For $34.99, you can’t expect much, but it was a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be.
I decided to add some legs to it to give it a bit more height.
The dresser has a weird little recessed part at the bottom, which I wasn’t loving. I added a piece of wood to the bottom of the front to make it flush with the drawers.
I then painted the whole shell of the dresser in Plaster Paint’s Silver Bling.
Then, to add a little pizzazz, I decided to add some details to each of the drawer fronts. I painted some trim in Plaster Paint’s Fireside and then attached the pieces along the perimeter of each drawer. It was still lacking a little, so I decided to add some decorative accents in the middle of each drawer — those I painted with the Fireside also.
The top looked a little unfinished, so I cut-down an old shelf I had in the garage, routed a curved edge across the top, and secured it to the dresser with screws coming up from the bottom. That left a little gap across the front between the old top and the new top, so I cut and added another piece of trim to hide it.
To top it off, I added these gorgeous Crystal Knobs that Hickory Hardware sent me!
WOW! This is stunning, Shanna! Love the bling of the knobs and the medallions really add to it too! Gorgeous makeover! XO
Great job, Shanna! Those knobs are the paint color you used are so pretty.
Love, love the way you finished this dresser!! The color and the medallions are so pretty! I would have never thought to add the legs and top piece.
I looks amazing. The color is fabulous too.
I can’t believe you took such a plain jane item into such an elegant piece of furniture. I would never have had the imagination for this type of transformation.
I’m always amazed by your vision to turn a ho hum piece into something gorgeous!
Gorgeous!! I can’t believe it is an IKEA dresser. Amazing what you did with it. Love it!!
Shanna,
It is just beautiful! You would have never know it started out as that plain cabinet. The hardware choice is just gorgeous. Well done as always!! ~Christy
