When you have dogs, your life can be full of surprises.
A wet, stuffed raccoon laid on your chest in the middle of the night, your Maltese barking incessantly at a blue jay at 5:00 in the morning, or finding your shoe filled with triangular-shaped dog food … because that is the only shape one of your pups will eat from a certain brand of dog food, and he is hiding it from the others.
You can also be surprised by their fears. One dog is deathly afraid of the vacuum cleaner, another the air compressor, and the last is afraid of well… pretty much anything.
One thing they all have in common is that they are members of the family. Our lives are so much better since they came into it.
Here are my babies:
Charlie
Gracie
and LuLu
When adopting a dog, you also can be surprised by health issues. For example, all three of my dogs have allergies. Charlie rubs his eyes, Gracie scratches at her ears, and LuLu chews on the tops of her paws.
Our vet told us to put them on allergy tablets twice a day, and that did help a little.
After a few months, their allergies were terrible again, and the vet then told us we might want to switch dog foods as it could be a food allergy issue.
When I saw the Purina One 28 Day Challenge, I figured what did we have to lose? My pups are my babies, and the quality of food they eat is important to me. Purina One contains real chicken, beef or fish as the number one ingredient.
So I ran down to PetSmart and picked some up.
The thing I kept asking myself was “Would they eat it?”
My dogs are picky. I have purchased so many different dog foods that they wouldn’t even try, so I wasn’t sure they would eat this.
I was definitely wrong because they were pushing each other out of the way to get to their bowls.
After the first week I was already noticing a difference in the scratching.
Gracie, who is 8, used to fetch her yellow ball (I mention yellow because that is the only color of ball she will fetch) for as long as you would throw it. I’ve noticed in the last couple of years that she is slowing down a bit. She will fetch it 4 or 5 times, and then go lay in her bed exhausted.
By the second week of the challenge, her energy level had really risen and she would fetch much longer!
Even my shy little LuLu decided to go out and roll around!
By the last week of the challenge, not only were their allergies better, but their coats felt softer and looked shinier.
Overall, I felt that the challenge was a success.
Anything that can keep my babies off of drugs and makes them feel better works for me!

We have used this product now for a while as well and Bella our Maltese loves it. I used to mix IAMS with Purina One and she ate it fine..but now I use only Purina One Smart Blend and it is her favorite. When we got her she was from a puppy mill as a breeding dog, and underweight, un socialized and never been a family member. It is still hard to keep weight on her, but this Purina One Smart Blend has helped more than the Science Diets and IAMS even the Puppy formula with more calories..she will clean this right up! AND I can buy it at Walmart or the grocery store!

They are adorable! They each look like they have their own personality! Good thing they are small or that bag of Purina One would not last long!

Purina has been the brand we feed our cat now for years. Whenever we switch, I always notice problems and end up going right back to the Purina. So glad your pups are feeling healthier and more energetic with their new menu and you won’t have to worry about finding shoe stashes anymore, as funny as that is!!

Purina is really a low-quality food. Bottom of the barrel. I know this is a sponsored post, so this comment very well might not be published, but take a look at the ingredients! The first ingredient is real meat, and that’s where the benefits STOP! Corn gluten meal is a cheap source of protein, soy flour is just a filler, “animal fat” is from what animal? Poultry by-product meal can mean feathers and claws, whole wheat? Dogs have NO need for wheat or grains of any kind. Whole corn and soybean meal, separate from the previous listings of corn and soy, is a tricky thing called “ingredient splitting.” If they had listed just “corn” or “soy beans,” there would be more of these ingredients, by weight, than turkey. I could go on, but just suffice it to say that this food is FAR from decent!
Turkey, corn gluten meal, soy flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), poultry by-product meal (natural source of glucosamine), whole wheat, whole corn, soybean meal, brewers rice, corn germ meal, venison, glycerin, oat meal, animal digest, calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, salt, potassium chloride, caramel color, Vitamin E supplement, sulfur, zinc sulfate, choline chloride, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite.

Your pups are so cute 🙂 I have a 12 year old border collie mix and we give him glucosamine tablets every night with his dinner – it’s amazing what a difference they make! You might check it out for your older puppy too!

The requirement of certain shapes and colors cracks me up! Sounds like they are all autistic- reminds me of my son 🙂 Glad you got some help with the Purina!
