Hello my friends! Is it as cold where you are as it is here? I know a lot of my blogging buddies out East are snowed-in today.
As you all know, I am not a fan of the cold, but it does force me to stay inside and get some painting done. One type of paint I haven’t worked with too often are metallics, so when the lovely people over at Modern Masters sent me some metallic paint to try out, I was super excited.
I found this little table at a yard sale last summer for $5.
I didn’t have a plan for it before, so I thought with the feminine lines that it had, the metallic would look perfect on it.
I started out with using Zinsser Bull’s Eye 123 Stain Blocking Primer — which is what Modern Masters recommended.
After the primer dried, I coated the table in three coats of Modern Masters Shimmer Metallic Paint Collection in Pewter.
I used my HomeRight Finish Max paint sprayer to do this (the lovely Topher agreed to be shown demonstrating).
It was a great consistency, and I didn’t have to thin the paint out like I usually do with chalkpaint. It went on beautifully, and had the perfect glimmer and sheen.
After the paint dried, I used an antique glaze that I already had, and used an artist’s brush to apply that to the grooves. Then I wiped the excess off with a clean cloth.
Once that dried I coated the whole piece in Satin MasterClear® Protective Clear Coat to seal it.
I thought this was the perfect spot for my Silver Ombre Candleholders.
The other piece I did was this looking glass mirror.
I got it for free when I went to pick up a dresser over the summer. I started this piece the same as the table, with the Zinsser Bull’s Eye 123 Stain Blocking Primer, I then painted it with two coats of Modern Masters Sashay Red Metallic Paint and sealed it with Satin MasterClear® Protective Clear Coat.
Now this isn’t the shape of mirror you run into everyday, but I thought it would be darling in a little girl’s bedroom, or even in a hair dresser’s shop.
Overall I was very impressed with the Modern Masters paint line. It was very low odor (which is great since my paint studio is inside).
I will definitely be using it again in the future — in fact if I have enough pewter left over, I will be painting a great bombay chest.

That paint looks great! It’s definitely different from what I expected. I thought it would be a lot more metallic but it’s the perfect amount for a bit of sheen. I love the snowflake color.

The table turned out great! I love the color. And I LOVE Modern Masters. I use it when I’m changing the color of hardware on my painted furniture pieces. Their Dead Flat Varnish is one of my all-time favorite products too!

Oh Shanna, love how you took two classic-looking pieces, transformed them with metallic paint, yet they both still retain their classic look! The silver table is so elegant and stylish, and the vignette you arranged is perfect! I also fell completely in love with that looking glass mirror – it’s so pretty with the metallic paint now!
