The first week of September, I will be turning 39.
The number 39 itself I have no problem with. What I do have a problem with is that it means I will be one year away from the big 4-0.
What the heck?
If I only live to 80, that means I will be at the halfway point.
What the heck?
How did I get so old? Mentally I don’t feel that old. My body is starting to show some signs though. Keeping my weight in check is one of those signs.
In high school and college, my diet kind of looked like this: Breakfast – Donuts and a Pepsi; Snack – Pepsi; Lunch – Pepsi and some Cheez-Its from the vending machine; Dinner – a huge ribeye and baked potato slathered in butter from the Steak House I waited tables.
I did this everyday for years and still maintained my 110lb body.
Now once the unnamed child was born, I changed my diet to be slightly more healthy … but not a whole lot.
Once I turned 37 though, everything came to a screeching halt. My body started piling on the pounds, so I knew I needed to make some changes. I had to start working out on a regular basis and eating foods that contained natural colors instead of artificial ones. So for the last two years, I have been feeling pretty good about my healthy 3 meals a day.
Then came two trips in the last two months. My trip with Topher to DC, which contained lemon ricotta pancakes with bacon every morning and high calorie cocktails every night. Then two weeks later my trip to Haven, which was filled with eating dinner at midnight every night and cocktails again in the evenings.
Within a month I gained 4 lbs! Ugh!
So when I heard about the Slimfast 14-Day Slimdown I jumped on it!
To lose up to 6 pounds in the first 2 weeks, you do the following:
- Swap two meals daily with a Slimfast® protein shake or meal bar
- The third meal must be 500 calories
- Enjoy three 100-calorie snacks or pieces of fruit per day
- Don’t exceed 1200 calories per day
- Do 30 minutes of light to medium exercise daily, and drink plenty of water
Slimfast recently released a new snack bar Greek Yogurt and Honey.
Now, I am a huge greek yogurt fan (I usually have it for breakfast), so I was hopeful that they would be good. I was so right! To top things off they only have 110 calories per bar, and I can order them straight from Amazon.
Everyday I have one of these bars after I go to the gym in the morning, and they are the perfect size to keep me full until my Slimfast protein shake at lunch.
It’s great that on this Slimfast plan, you only have to cook for yourself once a day.
Sometimes I wouldn’t want to go through the hassle, and I would just skip a meal. Now I just have my bars and protein shakes waiting, and I make sure I take in enough water throughout the day.
I also signed up for Slimfast Slim Coaching, daily texts providing crave kicking tips from experts, to funny videos, to encouragement and tough love. Something else that helped was cleaning all of the junk food out of the house. If it’s not there you aren’t tempted to eat it.

These do look great. I am going to give them a try.
Isn’t it terrible that we can’t eat like we used to?? These actually look tasty!
I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news..but, it doesn’t get any easier with the following decades either! I’m going to give these a try..they look good!
I’m doing the plan as well! I love the ease of it! Bars are fabulous as well as their recipes!!! ~Christy
Shanna, I became a a fan of slim fast shakes after having my 1st daughter. The bars sound so good though…I’ll have to give those a try!
I need to look for those bars to keep at school. Sometimes I forget my lunch or I need a snack when I’m staying late get things done in my classroom.
They look yummy! I noticed my metabolism started slowing down at 30… no fun. So now I definitely have to watch what I eat more, and I try to take a long walk every day. Every little bit helps!
Don’t know why it’s that 30 number that makes the difference, but thank goodness for products like Slim Fast. These honey bars look really good. I’m going to give them a try!
Oh yea … those 30s are a bummer! And it doesn’t get any better in the 40s 🙁 The yogurt and honey bars look delicious!
This actually looks doable. I may give it a try. I think I must try the cute pink shoes as well for motivation! Thanks for sharing!

I saw you in person and you look amazing, lady. But I totally agree that keeping the weight off is a much better approach than where I am. I have about 15 – 20 I need to lose, so I will investigate these and start working this into my daily routine. Great post, thanks for sharing!
I used Slim Fast in the liquid form years ago, but really missed chewing, so I’m thrilled to learn about the snack bars & their great flavors. Thanks for the info!
They are just the right size to take on the go!
