Since the unnamed child is finished with her cheer season, I gave her the option of going out for track (which she quickly declined) or going to the gym with me everyday after school. I thought it would be a good way to motivate me and to force me to make time during the day for some exercise.
Here is how today went:
Me: Ready to go to the gym?
The kid: I’m not going.
Me: You have to go
The kid: I just straightened my hair today, and if I sweat I will have to redo it … and I hate working out.
Me: So do I, but if we don’t go we’re going to get fat, have a heart attack, and die. Or even worse … get cellulite
The kid: Fine I’ll go but you cant force me to sweat.
So apparently this was not going to be a stellar workout day if she wasn’t allowed to get hot.
While there, the child walks up to me and says “That guy over there is checking you out”.
I said no, he’s not. Maybe he just thinks he knows me.
She said “No That’s not the kind of look he’s giving you, and he needs to stop. It’s creeping me out”.
I said “Why is that creeping you out?” She said “Because you’re a mom, that’s just disgusting.”
I said “Why would he be checking me out? I have on sweats, no makeup and my hair in a bun.”
She said “I know … he must be soooo lonely”.
Nothing like spending time with your teenage daughter to boost your self esteem.
Tomorrow, good hair day or not, we are going to sweat.
Speaking of getting hot, I used a red hot color on this next project.
This was the dresser that you amazing people voted on the color, and you selected a shade I’ve never used before.
So without further ado, let me unveil your selection in this red vintage dresser redoux. I think it came out great! How fun is this??
I love it! And that convo is too funny. Sounds like a conversation I would have with my mom as a teenager. Lol
Thanks Aubree! Just wait til you’re a mom. When you have a teenager of your own, you look back and feel terrible for what a brat you were to your mom growing up.I just keep telling myself that someday she will feel guilty for the snide little comments she throws my way!
I love it! The color is gorjus! I have a 17 year old daughter, so the conversation with your daughter is VERY familiar in every aspect!!
Thanks Lisa! When I vent these little stories to my mom, she reminds me that what goes around comes around lol!
LOL- Love the conversation with your daughter. My granddaughter said to me…You’re not so fat, Nana. Thank you! You’re welcuhm. (wait for it) Nana….Yes? Did you see the 800 pound man on Dr. Phil? (well, we all have to be compared to someone, don’t we).
I love your red hot dresse-it turned out great–r-apparently you are one RED HOT Mama to have someone checking you out! Don’t you know kids don’t believe we can ever be attractive once we have had them? lol xo Diana
That’s hilarious Diana! Yes, I think they believe they have sucked all of the beauty out of us once they are born (sadly to a certain degree that’s true lol!).
Well, if they haven’t sucked the beauty out of us, they certainly have succeeded in sucking out the energy!
BTW, LOVE your redo’s – and your blogs. Great ideas and wonderful stories!
Love the dresser, and if you think your daughter took it badly you should have seen the way my boys would react any time they believed a guy was looking my way. Nothing like some really angry faced teen boys (over 6′) staring someone down to make them turn and run.
Thanks Lois! No, my 5’2 daughter probably isn’t as intimidating as your sons lol!
Love the red dresser.
What I love about teenagers is that they have NO IDEA you were once a teenager, too!
Thanks Carmen! Oh, the world definitely revolves around them at this age. We ran into someone I used to date in high school at the grocery store the other day. I explained to the child who he was and she seemed bewildered that there was a man in my life before her father!
Love the dresser — my kind of re-do. I had to laugh about your daughter. I had one son, and it has been a very long time since he was a teen. He was more prudish than my church of Christ parents when it came to anyone giving me the eye!
Thanks so much!
Love the transformation, the red just pops! I have AS red paint and looking for the perfect project.
Thanks di!
I love your dresser! Looks really great! And your teen convo’ is priceless. I have 3 boys so different kind of conversations but have been told by the eldest he “never knows what (I) might say” which is why he doesn’t talk to his friends in the carpool when I drive! (stopping in from Tuesdays Treasures!)
Thanks Lisa! It’s amazing how embarrassing us parents can be!
Love the red! I just posted today the lingerie chest I paint a sexy red and black. I considered going all red because I love that Pop! But this was better suited to my master bedroom.
Oh my gosh I love the color so much, it is the most vintage looking…the red is just the perfect choice.,,you did a great job,,,
Awww thanks Phyllis!
The conversation with your daughter is hysterical! And that dresser? What an improvement! Love the red with the bright gold hardware.
I’d be thrilled if you’d link up at this week’s Off the Hook!
love the dresser!! Great color.
Ooh la la! I like it!
The red really pops!
But still maintains the vintage feel…. Awesome!

That conversation with your daughter was hilarious!! And the red dresser is absolutely gorgeous!

It turned out gorgeous!
Thanks Megan!
I love the convo with your daughter. kids think we dry up & become nuns, LOL… it doesn’t change when they are adults, no way do my much older kids wanna see or hear anything like that, I get the hands over ears & lalalalas… but they share their side, LOL. Love the chest. it was in great shape too. really is a bright & cheerful accent piece now.
stopping over from Thursdays fav. things.
Thanks Faythe! Yes, why is it that they think we want to hear all about their love lives and then they are appalled if they see us holding hands with our spouses? They tend to forget that we were young once also. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Amazing, amazing redo. I have a beautiful can of red paint I scored for the free at Ace this past weekend. I’m just waiting for the right project. thanks for the inspiration
Thanks Melissa! I got me a can of turquoise from there last weekend too! Have a great weekend!
Wow! A perfect pop of color to brighten any room. I love it!

I love the color! What a beautiful transformation.
I also loved hearing your back and forth with your daughter. My girls are in their 20’s and 30’s now but I remember having very similar conversations with them. So funny! Gotta love ’em.
Blessings,
Patti@OldThingsNew
Thanks Patricia! Mothers and daughters have complicated relationships (especially during the teen years) don’t they. One minute you’re best friends, the next you want to kill each other. I hear there is a light at the end of the tunnel though! Hopefully you can attest to this!
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great weekend!
I love how this turned out. Such a bright, fun color!
And teenagers say the funniest things. You should write down some of the zingers your daughter says, as she will probably enjoy reading them later. My grandparents did that when my father was a teen and it’s funny to now read what his young philosophies were on life. (Back when he had everything figured out!)
Thanks so much! That is a great idea! I just might start a little journal of things like that. Have a great weekend!
I love how it turned out, such a beautiful color. After reading your story……I just can’t wait for my two little girls to turn into teenagers. Lol.
Thanks Marie! Oh you’re in for double trouble!
Gorgeous! I invite you to join my link party too, Crafty Country Cottage @ Old Red Barn. Hope to see you soon!

Hello…new subscriber here! Love this red dresser! You did a great job! I have a 9 year old daughter and am terrified of the teen age years to come…I will definitely be paid back for what I put my mom through, lol. 😉
I’d love it if you stopped by my blog and subscribed, I am a new blogger.

Love the red hot dresser and the great hardware! And the conversations with your daughter – priceless!
Whoa! The red is terrific! Just excellent! I love seeing some real color–
The dresser looks amazing, and I’m sure you did too, sweats and all 😉
L.O.V.E. the red! I have a teen daughter also and I feel your pain ~ they forget we were teen girls and know all of their “secrets”, ha ha! Stopping by from the Beneath My Heart March linky party!

Thanks Cher! These are definitely trying years!
GORGEOUS makeover Shanna! I love the red, especially with the brass hardware. Your story had me laughing. My boys are 5 and 7 and I dread the day they become teenagers… although everyone tells me that teenaged boys are easier than girls. 🙂
-Holly
Thanks so much Holly! I have heard the same thing about teenage girls being harder lucky for you!
Shanna I love this red with the gold hardware. The look is very high end, and I love it! Sharing it in FFF on 6/14/13. Thanks! xoxo
wow, love the color!!! and fabulous before and after!
Thanks so much for linking up for Habitat! Good luck and hope to see you again next week.
I absolutely love this dresser. Did you use a specific shade or red, or did you mix it yourself? I’m trying to accomplish something similar with a little garage sale find of mine – did you use a glaze? Thank you so much!
Haha! Oh kids. Gotta love em. Gotta love this dresser too. It’s awesome! Nice job!
I LOVE this dresser! What a fabulous transformation! And those handles??? Beautiful!
Thank you so much Delia! Have a great weekend!
Loving the red – almost as smart and sassy as your daughter 🙂 kids gotta love them !!
What color and brand of paint did you use? Planning to do something similar but cannot find the right color of red.
