You know where I had my break up with old man winter the other day? Well he’s like that old boyfriend you had in high school that you broke up with, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. It is freezing here with torrential winds and tons of rain for the last two days.
Topher was out of town for the first half of the week, so there was a bit more on my plate than usual, and with my new booth space opening next week my to do list is a mile long.
One thing I can cross off my list was this guy.
I found this old end table at a yard sale last week. I got it for the bargain price of … free! It was the last day of the lady’s sale, and she said I could just have it so that she could be rid of it.
It was music to my ears.
So I loaded that baby up (quickly — just in case she changed her mind).
It was dirty, dated and down right ugly.
(Don’t mind Gracie’s puppy butt in the picture above)
I painted the entire piece green.
Then I hated it.
So I painted over the entire piece with two coats of Plaster Paint in Flannel. After that dried I painted the inserts in Plaster Paint; this time I used Sweet Cream.
I spray painted the handles and hinges an antique gold.
I then distressed the whole piece, which allowed the smallest bit of green to peek through to match the green on the inside of the cabinet.
I felt like it was still missing a little something so applied a little Parisian stencil to the top.
I think it looks 100% better!
I love that it has great extra storage also!
I’ll be taking it down to my new furniture booth for the April 1st grand opening!

Oh I love what you did with this side table! The surprise pop of color inside is gorgeous. I had a couple of these tables and now I wish I would have kept them. Another beautiful makeover – you are very talented!

Shanna~ Wow! Love how you brought that old side table back to life! I too have one of those hexagon cabinets in my shop and it is on my list of Restyles! I love the blue-gray paint shade you used and the contrasting green on the inside. The inside of these tables tend to be dark, so painting it a bright color was a grand idea! Just bought some simple stencils & stenciling brush kit so I can add that special touch as you have to tables! Keep up the good work and sharing it with all of us! I really love that color Flannel and with the cream, it’s just a really unique look. Love that you keep the inside green and added the stencil on top. It’s a beauty.

Sometime will you share how you get the white and blue to meet without making a mess. I am having so much trouble painting panels without the panel color ending up a mess where it meets the main body color. No mater what paint or what brush I use, it’s still a problem. Even frogtape doesn’t help because the edges give too much and don’t go on with the curve of the inset panel. Yet your panels look perfect.

Thanks MJ! At my last blogging conference I talked with the people from FrogTape and learned the secret. Once you apply your tape and press it down, go over the edges with a damp wash cloth. Something in the tape is activated when it gets damp (not soaking wet. It provides the barrier. Hope that helps!
