Today is everybody’s favorite day!!!!!! It’s the Swap It Like It’s Hot Tour!!!
Now if you’re new here, this is where me and my bloggy buddies each have a $10 budget, and we spend it at the thrift store, and the goodies we buy there get sent on to a friend who DIY’s the holy heck out of them.
It’s amazing to see the creativity all of these women have. Sometimes the items you receive are challenging, folks. Like, sit-there-staring-at-the-stuff-for-weeks challenging. Like, you wonder if you somehow ticked the person who sent the things to you off challenging. Other times, you know right off the bat what you are going to transform the pieces into.
I had a little of both this time.
Now if you remember, this is the third time I have taken part in this tour. The first time I had a bowl and a place mat to work with. The second time I had some totally 70’s coasters.
This time the lovely Tania from Run to Radiance sent me my box of goodies.
Here’s what I got:
A birdcage, some rope and a roll of thin black ribbon. Hmmmm….. what to do?
I started with the rope since I felt like it had the most possibilities.
I found an old coffee can.
I decided to spray paint it Rust-Oleum’s Gold.
I then started hot gluing the rope from bottom to top, starting and ending on the same side.
Once it was all glued on, I spray painted the can again.
After the can had dried, I filled it with potting soil (sand would work also), inserted some faux succulents I picked-up on clearance at Micheal’s last summer, and called it a day.
For project #2, I decided to use the birdcage.
This one was hard for me since it was already cute the way it was.
I decided to remove the lid. I then glued on a vintage plate that I had to the top of it.
Viola! A cute little cake plate!
For my last project I used the thin black ribbon I was sent.
I took an old frame I had and spray painted it black.
I then covered a board to fit inside with wrapping paper that I got in the dollar bin at Michael’s, and then criss-crossed ribbon across it.
I think it would be cute to stick your favorite recipes inside the ribbon!
Now, make sure you head over to my uber creative friend Christy’s over at Confessions of a Serial DIYer and check out what she did with the items I sent to her!
