Happy Monday everyone!!! I hope you all had a good weekend.
Friday night, we went out to dinner at Bonefish Grill (one of my favorite places), and then the unnamed child and I watched Life as a House which wasn’t bad, and Sleepy Hollow which was horrible.
It was beautiful here on Saturday, sunny and warm (but not hot). We had four teenage girls come over for a little pool time, a cook-out, and to stay the night — and as you can image, Topher and I got very little sleep as they screamed through their horror movies.
Sunday it rained all day, so I painted and finally finished a piece for my very own house!
If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you will know that since I’m always working on furniture pieces for clients, I never have time for pieces for my own home.
Well … take cover since pigs must be flying because this sucker is done!
Here is the before pic:
(Yes, as usual, I forgot to take the pic until the top was already painted.)
I have been wanting to do a Union Jack piece for awhile now, and I was a little intimidated with all of the measuring and taping. I finally realized that’s what husbands are for, and off we went.
I did two coats of ivory paint first (I wanted to light base-color to peak through after distressing). Next, I painted the entire top with the tan color.
Then, the first layer of taping began, and I added on the ivory triangles.
Then the last layer of tape followed with the aqua stripes.
Once it dried and the tape was removed, there was a little of touching-up to be done where the paint leaked through.
After that was completed I started with the distressing, followed with a two coats of clear wax since I knew this piece would get heavy use down in my basement.

Union Jack Table
I have another fun post for you tomorrow. It’s a gift to go in my new niece’s nursery!
You did a great job on that table. It is just perfect- xo Diana
Thank you Diana!
Hi! I’m fairly new to your blog and LOVE your posts. I’m getting ready to paint my bedroom furniture and am reading that you use clear wax to protect your pieces when finished. What kind of wax is it specifically and when do you use wax versus a poly coat?
Thanks!
Thanks Becky! I almost always use chalkpaint, and with the chalkpaint you use a wax instead of a poly. The wax is just as durable. I use Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
love it! well done, fun colors to use too. xo
Thank you Katherine!
Spectacular!! Love the ivory and turquoise.
Shanna – This piece is spectacular! When I read the title, I expected the typical bright red, whites and blues – but I love the subtle treatment you gave it! I’d proudly display this in my living room!
Love the finished table. You’ve got me motivated to find a place for one in my house 🙂
Just shared this on FB and Twitter! Love it! Here’s to Haven

Beautiful! I like the colors you chose—they’re so different than the ones I see the union jacks done in. These colors add sophistication to it. Wonderful job!

Love this so much, the muted colors work so well, I am British and love furniture with the British flag on it, very chic !
Thanks so much Angela! Stay tuned I am getting ready to do some British flag pillows soon!
I love your version of the Union Jack – it turned out marvelous – it sounded like you had a terrific time – we tried a couple of movies yesterday that I checked out from the library – two didn’t make it through 15 minutes until we settled with tried and true movies we love. We’ve decided we need to be more selective – for our time and for our pure enjoyment! I am delighted that you shared with A Return to Loveliness,
Kathy
Thank you for hosting Kathy! Yes, it seems like there are so many good movies out there when you see the trailers. Too bad they show the only 5 funny parts in the trailers.
Awesome! I especially like the soft colors you chose!
Thank you Sharon! Hope you’re having a great week!
Marvelous job. Thanks for sharing at Home{work} Wednesday this week.
Thanks Amy! Thank you for hosting!
Beautiful table makeover Shanna. sometimes this patter could make a piece so overwhelming and limit it to certain parts of the house, but the color choices you made make it subtle and able to work no matter where you use it! Thanks for sharing at the Fluster Buster Party! Have a fantastic week, Lizy your co host for today!
Thank you for the kind words Lizy! Have a great weekend!
Featuring YOU today over on my blog! 🙂 Thanks for linking up to {wow me} wednesday!
