Everyone collects something don’t they?
At least they do in my family. My mom collects vintage rhinestone jewelry, my grandmother collected antique dolls, and my aunt collected vintage Barbies. As a little girl I always went to yard sales with my grandma. While she was always on the lookout for old dolls, I was eyeing the fancy rhinestone jewelry (yes I was a sucker for some bling even back then). It was a fun challenge and gave me something to do while she was expanding her collection.
As I got to be a teenager, going to yard sales just wasn’t cool anymore, and my collection started gathering dust under the bed. For about 10 years, life was so busy going to college, getting married and having a little one, I didn’t have time to look for jewelry or start another collection.
About 5 years ago, while at an antique store with Topher, I fell in love with some tiny vintage dogs, and that is how my pup collection took off. You all know how much I love my furbabies, and I guess this is just an extension of that. It’s fun anytime we go on a trip, or when I have a birthday or Christmas coming, Topher and the kid scout me out some new dogs.
Right before my aunt passed away a couple of years ago, she dropped off an early birthday gift for me: some new pups for my collection. I thought it was odd that she dropped them off a few weeks early since she always usually came by on my actual birthday. It turns out that she was in a car accident and died on my actual birthday. It was like she knew, somehow, and wanted to make sure she gave me one last gift. Those dogs she gave me that day will always be some of my most cherished possessions.
My grandma and my aunt may no longer be with me anymore, but everytime I come across a new little pup to add to my collection, I feel like they are guiding me to it and looking down and smiling.

I LOVE this collection! Your story is exactly why collections are so much fun — there is always a story, a memory, etc. when finding something new to add. How wonderful that your aunt gave you birthday gift early — what a treasure those little pups are. Thanks for sharing!
This tour is making me think I need more collections! lol

Your collection warms my heart. I love dogs! Each year I buy a small German Shepherd for Mike’s office. Now we have a Multi poo as well. I think I should mix up the collection for Mike. 🙂

I love your little dogs! It’s always neat when people think of you when they’re out and about and find something that would fit in. What a fun collection. And that story about your aunt! So touching. It’s been so fun seeing everyone’s collections and hearing why and how they started in the first place. Thanks for playing along!
