I can’t believe I am still around my friends.
Here in Kansas we all felt like we could go airborne at any minute with the 60MPH winds we had to endure. I had to put the pups on leashes just to go outside for fear that my tiny dogs would be swept away.
The unnamed child was thrilled that they chose yesterday to have a fire drill at school. Have you seen those wind tunnel booths that kids get into at the mall? Well when the kiddo arrived home from school, it looked like she just stepped out of one of those.
Since it was nasty outside, I decided to stay in and paint. You know the Americana Chalky Finish Paint I used on yesterday’s chalkboard makeover? Well I liked it so much I decided to use it on this vintage shelf that I had setting in the basement.
Here is what it looked like before:
After I cleaned all the dust and dirt off the shelf, I pulled out my paint and got to work.
I painted on two coats of Serene.
I then distressed it with a sanding block.
Once the paint was dry, I coated the whole piece with the dark Creme Wax to give it an aged look.
After I applied that, I went over it with a damp cloth and removed some of the extra. Then I went back over the places that were a bit too dark with the clear wax (it kind of works like an eraser).
Afterward, I buffed the whole piece and that was it!
I put some of my pups from my collection on there! It would be darling in a little boy’s nursery though!

I love how it turned out. How do those paints compare with other chalk paints you have used?

I have also tried the Americana Paint since I found I was able to actually go to a store to purchase some chalk type paint. I am not able to purchase chalk paint were I live, I have to order it on line. Any way , I also purchased the wax as well and I have a problem with the wax. It does not give me the nice smooth finish that other waxes do. Maybe I am not applying it correctly. Perhaps you can tell me how you applied yours and how long you had to wait to be able to buff it. I appreciate any feed back that you can offer.
Thank you
Debra

Hi Debra! The only tip I have is to use it sparingly. It takes a little getting used to if what you are used to is paste wax. I usually let it sit for 30min to an hour and then I use a car buffer to buff it off. I get a nice smooth finish when I do it that way. Hope that helps!
