Over the summer I found this picture for a $1. Now, I’m sure that when you look at this, you think a dollar might have been too much to pay for this picture of some old guy (who I think might be Ponce De Leon, but Topher thinks it’s Copernicus — but that doesn’t roll off the tongue, so we are just going to stick with Ponce).
While I love my Spanish conquistador as much as the next guy, Ponce definitely wasn’t fitting in with my decor, so he had to go undercover.
First, I removed Ponce and spray-painted my frame a high gloss white.
Next, cut a piece of fabric just slightly larger than your piece of cardboard backing you originally had behind the print.
Then I placed the fabric under the side to be covered.
Then hot glue (or tape — like I did since I was in a hurry) the material to your cardboard.
Next, I started sticking on flowers to form the word LOVE (or whatever word you choose). I got these sets of flowers in Michael’s dollar bins. It took 5 sets to complete this. These flowers were self adhesive, so it made the process a little quicker — I thought about hot gluing them, but since I wanted to be able to rearrange them while getting them in place, I just went with the sticky pads they already had attached.
Then I used duct tape to attach Ponce back to the frame.
Not only is this a great Valentine’s Day project, it will be good for spring and summer too.
Also if I ever get sick of it, I can take the fabric off and proudly show off Ponce to all of my friends. What’s that? Yes, probably not.
