You see them at yard sales all of the time. Little decorative items that are still cute but outdated because of the colors used on them.
There are certain colors that were used in certain time periods that totally give them away. In the 70’s it was avocado, yellow, and oranges. In the eighties there was the whole country phase in country blue and mauve. Many of these decorative items you would pass right by at yard sales and thrift stores when all they really need is a little makeover.
I picked-up this little clock at a yard sale for 50 cents last summer. I knew with the rust and green was not going to fit into my decor, but I knew a little Plaster Paint could change that.
I started by cleaning all the dirt off of the clock, since paint does not stick well if it’s dirty.
Next, I covered the face of the clock with painters tape and I spray painted the whole piece with flat black spray paint.
I then used two coats of Plaster Paint in Sweet Cream.
Once it dried, I used a fine grit sanding block and distressed the whole piece.
Voila! Good as new!
