Vintage Shelf Makeover

I can’t believe I am still around my friends.

Here in Kansas we all felt like we could go airborne at any minute with the 60MPH winds we had to endure. I had to put the pups on leashes just to go outside for fear that my tiny dogs would be swept away.

The unnamed child was thrilled that they chose yesterday to have a fire drill at school. Have you seen those wind tunnel booths that kids get into at the mall? Well when the kiddo arrived home from school, it looked like she just stepped out of one of those.

Since it was nasty outside, I decided to stay in and paint. You know the Americana Chalky Finish Paint I used on yesterday’s chalkboard makeover? Well I liked it so much I decided to use it on this vintage shelf that I had setting in the basement….

I hope you all had a great weekend! I had the Grand Opening of the new store front where I am selling my furniture at RElove All Things Shabby on Saturday. I want to thank everyone who came down. The store was packed and the day was a big success!

After selling some pieces last week, I got right to work on Sunday getting some new projects finished-up to take down to my  booth space.

Last week at a yard sale, I picked up a dated, old picture. I knew I had to ditch the print, but I loved all of the gorgeous carving on the frame….

My Animal Plate Wall

I’m so excited to tell you about my animal plate wall! But first, remember a few weeks ago I told you about how well I was doing with my New Years resolution? My resolution to get healthy, by eating better and working out? I had been doing really well, and I was so proud of myself…until last week.

I had been starting to tone up, drop a few pounds, and had been facing one of my biggest challenges which is eating anything green. Last week however, my insomnia was at an all time high (or is it low? Whichever means worse). When I sleep for less then 2 hours a night for multiple days in a row, my body freaks out. It doesn’t want to go to the gym, and it seeks out any junk food within a 5 mile radius that isn’t nailed down.

Add to it that this weekend was the end of Lent (to which I had given up chocolate), and the minute it was over I ran to Walgreen’s and got my favorite Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Milk and Cookies, and I ate the ENTIRE pint of ice cream in one sitting. I was literally sick afterward.

Then the next day was Easter, where I had high calorie, bad for you food … for not one but two family dinners.

Yesterday, sitting on my counter top was the leftover homemade pecan pie. Pecan pie, for anyone who doesn’t know, is my kryptonite. So what was I doing at 9:00 last night? You guessed it.

So today my friends, I am starting over.

Towerish Shelf Thing

Happy Monday everyone!!!  I hope you all had a great Easter weekend!

The unnamed child had Friday off from school, so we watched the second to the last Harry Potter movie that night (Book 7, Part 1). Now, I know that I was the last person on the planet to read the Harry Potter series, so I am just now getting caught up on the movies. Just like any series, the books are better than the movies, but these are still good.

Saturday we got up early to get the house cleaned for guests on Sunday. After a busy day of scrubbing from top to bottom, we went to the Easter Vigil, which didn’t start until 8PM, and didn’t end until 10.  Since we had attended our Easter service, we considered it officially Easter and drove straight to Walgreens and got my favorite ice cream (since I had given up chocolate for Lent).

Sunday, we went to my in-law’s for lunch and then headed straight home to host my family. On my side, all we had were appetizers and dessert since most of us had already had a big meal. It was fun spending time with my sweet little niece (she learned how to crawl last week!).

We ended Easter Sunday with the kiddo and I watching the last in the Harry Potter series.

Aqua Striped Dresser and How the Easter Bunny Was Dead

Happy Thursday Everyone! With Easter right around the corner, my hubby, the unnamed child, and I were doing a little reminiscing.  My daughter was one of the last kids in her class that still believed in Santa. We loved that she still had faith in the big guy, and it made Christmas that much more magical to her.

So when she found out the truth … well, she went c.r.a.z.y, and told us that we were liars and how dare we trick her and she hated us for weeks.

The same year that she found out about Christmas, she was home with my hubby a few days before Easter. I arrived home to find her sobbing in the kitchen with my husband  mouthing something  behind her and making frantic hand gestures. I asked her what was wrong, and she said that the Easter bunny was dead. I asked her why she would say such a thing and she said “Daddy told me”.

Again my hubby was mouthing something, so I went with him in the other room.

What is going on here? He said she had asked him what the Easter bunny looked like, and he laughed and said, “You know there’s no Easter bunny” (since she knew there was no Santa).

Apparently, she hadn’t made the connection….
