Aqua Chevron Striped Table

Happy Monday everyone!!! I hope you all had a great weekend!

It was so beautiful here! I took the pups on walks, got shoes for the unnamed child to wear to Homecoming, went to visit my new little niece (who is ridiculously adorable), picked up an amazing old door off Craigslist, and finished a table.

Topher (my hubby for new readers), on the other hand, went and ran the Tough Mudder. He’s finished a number of “mud runs” before, but this is a 12 mile race full of insane obstacles (which I thought that he should never put his body through). You run through things like ice water, crawl under live electrical wires, scale really tall walls, jump off ledges, drag tires, and go through way, way too many tight spaces — all in mud.  Two of his team members blacked-out from being hit in the head during the electrical obstacles (see why I said he shouldn’t do it).

Fall Mantel

It has been a rainy dreary day here in Kansas.  Of course we would finally get rain right when I needed to spray paint some pumpkins. There was a little iffy window of time today where I got it done.

BeJeweled Jack-O-Lantern Part 2

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend!

I accomplished a lot of work on my projects, saw my new little niece, caught up on my last three episodes of SYTYCD, and even went out to dinner at Bonefish Grill for my birthday.

I have a busy week planned knocking out a few projects, but I also get to spend to time shopping for the unnamed child to put together the rest of her accessories for Homecoming. We have the dress, so the big thing is out of the way, but now we are onto shoes and jewelry.

We did have a couple of days that actually felt like fall last week, but we were back in the nineties again today. Ugh. Since it was too hot to be outside, I decided to get myself geared up for fall by making some Halloween projects.

BeJeweled Jack-o-Lantern

Growing up, Halloween was a big deal in my home.

It was my mom’s favorite holiday. She would go all out making costumes for my brother and me, and she ran our haunted house in elementary school. She would dress up in crazy, elaborate costumes each year.

All of this was great fun until I got to be in middle school. Then having your mom drop you off at school wearing a Supergirl costume wasn’t so exciting.

She did pass-on her love of the holiday to me. Now I don’t dress up in costumes (the unnamed child would absolutely disown me), but I do go all out with the Halloween decor (think a giant light up spooky tree in the front yard).

Sorrow

Two weeks ago my aunt, whom I’m very close to, got in a terrible car wreck.  A large truck broadsided her, and the only reason she made it to the hospital was because on off-duty fireman happened to be on the scene and began CPR almost immediately after the accident.

Once at the hospital, she was admitted in critical condition, with so many significant injuries we had a difficult time keeping track: She had broken all of her ribs on the left side, her entire blood volume had to be replaced twice, her arm was broken in several places, they had to remove her spleen and a kidney, two vertebrae in her neck were broken, her pelvis was crushed, and she had a severe brain injury. Her doctor told us she had a less than 50% chance of making it, and he would be surprised to see her make it through the night….

Fall Mantel Garland

I can’t believe it’s already September! I would like to say we are having some lovely fall weather, but it is going to be in the mid-90’s here for the rest of the week.

Since dead grass and scorching heat aren’t nearly as festive, I decided it was time to do some fall decorating, and since the mantle is my main focal point,  I started there.

I fell in love with these two great owls at Pier One Imports the other day, so I began by flanking my giant mirror with those.  It was definitely still too plain, so I thought a garland was just what I needed….
