Sugar House Coffee Table

Today, my friends, is month three in our One Space Three Ways Decorating Challenge.

If you are new here, what we do is take one space, and we decorated it for Fall, Halloween, and Christmas.

I chose my coffee table, since it is one of the main focal points of my living room.

My family is very used to coming home and finding the house looking totally different than it did before they left. I might hear an occasional yelp from my hubby when he runs into a newly moved piece of furniture in the middle of the night, but other than that they don’t complain. When it comes to Christmas, though my daughter doesn’t like me messing with traditions.

About 10 years ago, I bought a couple of these sweet little sugar houses at a day after Christmas sale and fell in love….

Home for the Holidays Christmas Tour

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you all had a good weekend! Ours included Topher’s office Christmas party, which included a murder mystery that we all took part in. Nothing says Christmas like a little dead body.

The unnamed child went to her first dance club … which made me a little nervous. She and her friends are only 18, which means they can’t drink, but it doesn’t stop the drunk 40 year olds there from hitting on her. All-in-all, they learned some country two step and some line dances, and I stayed up way too late waiting-up for her.

Between the Christmas party and waiting up, there wasn’t a whole lot of sleep had this weekend.

As you all know, Christmas is my favorite holiday. Topher questions me every year as I pull out the decorations a little bit earlier than the year before. I figure if it’s what you love, and it makes you happy when it surrounds you, than enjoy it as long as you can.

Let’s start out with the tree. This year, I added a bit more turquoise to the tree along with the silver and white. I thought about replacing the angel that we have had forever, but the unnamed child put her foot down. She’s a big one for tradition, and anytime I try to change things up, as far as holiday decor goes, I am definitely met with resistance.

Let’s move our way to the buffet. I moved the marquee letters that I used on last year’s Christmas mantel over here.

Here is my newly painted mantel, all decked out in pink glamour. I’ve never used pink in my holiday decor before, but I’m glad I did!

I made my little sugar house wreath with an old wreath I picked up from a yard sale last summer.

I threw a scarf I used to wear on my little side table along with some Christmas decor I had in storage.

I used another blanket scarf for the coffee table. I used some vintage bottles I found at a yard sale and topped them with ornaments.

The whole set up didn’t cost me a dime. I simply shopped my home.

Small Update Big Impact

Like most women out, there I am in charge of all of the home decorating. I pick out the paint, the projects we are going to do, and all of the decor. As long as I don’t paint the whole house pink Topher doesn’t really care.

One thing that he did kind of hold his ground on was me painting the mantel white. For a while, we weren’t really sure if we were going to stay in our house once the unnamed child went off to college, but after seeing what was out there in our price range, we decided to stay put.

Until we decided, Topher thought it was best to keep the mantel as it was, as not all people like painted wood. Since we made the decision to stay, he reluctantly gave me the go ahead….

Today I have a new area all spruced up. Get it? Spruced up?

Today I’m taking part in the Welcome Home Christmas Tour with a few of my blogging buddies. Technically, we are supposed to decorate our entry ways or foyers, but since I don’t really have an entry way, I decorated my coffee table since that is the first thing you see when you walk in my front door.

I started out with a blanket scarf that I normally wear, but works great as a runner. My centerpiece you might recognize from my spring decor….

2015 Christmas Mantel

Happy Monday my friends!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was great. We hosted Thanksgiving dinner for my side of the family this year (we switch off going from one side of the family to the other each year). Everyone was able to come (the unnamed child had to work all day, but got off just in time to eat), and we of course stuffed ourselves silly. Shortly afterward, we got a big ice storm, which I could have done without, but it did start to melt off yesterday.

I can’t believe it’s after Thanksgiving, and I still haven’t shown you any of my Christmas decor yet!

Most of my holiday decor in the past has been turquoise, white, and silver. While there is still a lot of that, with my mantel, I decided to step out of my box a little bit and add in some different colored pastels along with some silver and gold….
