How do you feel about exposing your family to chemicals? It feels like every time you turn on the television there is a new story about how there are toxins in our water, our food, cosmetics, etc.
Every year there are also increases in diseases like autism, cancers, and autoimmune diseases. It makes you wonder if there is a connection? I’m no expert in chemical compounding and understanding how it relates to my mascara, but I have really been trying to cut back on any chemicals that come into our home. And when you consider how much of what we touch was created in a lab with man-made materials rather than something grown in a forest, it’s not too difficult to start connecting dots….
You see them at yard sales all of the time. Little decorative items that are still cute but outdated because of the colors used on them.
There are certain colors that were used in certain time periods that totally give them away. In the 70’s it was avocado, yellow, and oranges. In the eighties there was the whole country phase in country blue and mauve. Many of these decorative items you would pass right by at yard sales and thrift stores when all they really need is a little makeover.
I picked-up this little clock at a yard sale for 50 cents last summer. I knew with the rust and green was not going to fit into my decor, but I knew a little Plaster Paint could change that….
Hello my friends!
As I explained to you last week, I’ve been having some issues with my right kidney. The doctor inserted a stent because my kidney had a blockage. Well … sticking that sucker in there caused a whole lot of other problems, and the doc decided it needed to come out. When they put it in, it was during a surgery where I was under anesthesia. What they didn’t tell me was that when they take it out you are not. So when the doctor said this is really going to hurt, he freaking meant it people. After that came out, they thought things would be better, but so far it isn’t — which really sucks because I’ve got stuff to do: we still have to find prom shoes; get the dress altered; get the unnamed child enrolled in some million-dollar college classes; and I haven’t been able to touch a project in weeks and my poor furniture booth looks like a ghost town. So they have either got to fix what is wrong with me (I’d prefer that), or give me some way stronger drugs. Although in the ER they gave me Dilaudid, which I highly recommend if you ever get the opportunity (and the need).
One thing I hadn’t had a chance to show you yet was my spring decor on my coffee table….
It’s finally Spring!!!!
At least it is here in Kansas!
As I have mentioned before, I am not a Fall or Winter girl. Give me green grass and warm weather, and I am one happy camper. I get giddy when I look out and see daffodils and iris poking their heads above ground.
As much as I love flowers, I do not have much of a green thumb, so in order to enjoy the beautiful blossoms, I sometimes have to fake it. I love having flowers on the front door or using them as centerpieces, and some of the projects down below are some of my past favorites….
For the last couple of months my bloggy buddies and I have participated in a decorating challenge where you decorate the same space three different ways using only items you already own.
Making over furniture is easy for me, decorating not so much. As I have said before, I tend to decorate a space and then leave it for the next five years. This challenge has been good for me to pull old things out of the basement and shuffle things all around the house.
The spot that I chose to decorate was my buffet.
