10 Ways To Get Fit For Summer

Around this time of year I get a panicky feeling. You know, the feeling that summer is just around the corner.

Now you all know that I am a summer girl. I love just about everything about it: BBQ’s, fireflies twinkling, no waking the unnamed child up for school … it all makes me a happy girl.

The one thing I hate: trying on swimsuits. My palms start sweating just thinking about that much skin being exposed to the public.

The unnamed child starting wearing shorts last week, and she is feeling a little self-conscious too. She used to be in cheer, but after many years of competitive gymnastics, she tore tendons in her wrists and has had to bow out. She used to be able to eat whatever she wanted, since she was active enough to burn off the calories. Now she has come to the sad realization that she actually has to burn off all of that junk food that she takes in.

So her and her friends have decided to make some changes (at least for vanity reasons), and they didn’t have any time to waste.

Taking the Guesswork out of Gardening with Miracle-Gro Gro-ables

Remember a few weeks ago how I told you I was sent some Miracle-Gro Gro-ables pods?

Do you remember me also telling you how, in the past, I kill anything green within a 5 mile radius? Well my luck has changed my friends!

I have actually kept something alive for over a month now! Not only is it alive, it is thriving, and it couldn’t have been easier! Miracle-Gro Gro-ables are a a pre-packaged seed pod that makes it incredibly easy to grow your own herbs and veggies from seed.

I got these cute little painted pails in Target’s Dollar Spot section. I drilled some holes in the bottom of them so that they could drain. I then found some chalkboard stickers at Michael’s, which I put on the front of the pails to label them.

I then put in a layer of potting soil, and then I simply placed my Gro-able right on top.

That.was it.

Seriously, even I could pull this one off. You make sure it gets proper sunlight and water. It’s that easy. Even better is that they are affordable ($1.29 – $1.49 per seed pod – depending on your market). I picked basil, globe tomatoes, and sweet peppers.

So many vegetables are sprayed with harmful chemicals, and I love that I will be feeding my family something that is more healthy (and grown by yours truly).

We try to go meat free at least one day per week. So we are big grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup fans. I always add basil to my soup, and I am so excited to actually grow my own! Topher loves to put tomatoes in his omelets, so he is looking forward to harvesting those.

Even though Gro-Ables are guaranteed to grow (when used as directed) with my black thumb I was skeptical. So when I looked into my pods and saw my little sprouts growing I was super excited!

Bunny Silhouette Painted Mason Jar

Happy Friday everyone!!!

It’s been a typical, crazy week around here. I had custom pieces I had to finish up for clients, furniture pieces for the booth to finish up, and yesterday was Topher’s 40th birthday! I asked him whether or not he wanted a big party, but he declined. So we went out to his favorite Mexican restaurant, came back home, opened gifts, and then had his favorite lemon pie.

Yesterday was the first day it has been warm enough here to go to yard sales, and I ended up with a pretty good haul. Head over to my Instagram account if you want to see the goodies.

It was so warm yesterday, that the unnamed child came straight home from school, threw on her bikini, and laid out in the sunshine for a little bit. Today is supposed to be the same, but the thunderclouds are going to be rolling-in this weekend. I know that we need the rain, but I have some city-wide yard sales to go to on Saturday. I will keep you posted on what I find.

Since we will be hosting Easter dinner, I figured I needed a few more Easter decorations to spruce the place up.

Crepe Paper Easter Basket

Today is a good day my friends!

Spring has finally sprung here in Kansas, and I get a much needed haircut. I feel like going for a big change, but I have two trips coming up in the next couple of months, and I’m not sure if I want to take the risk. The last time I did a major change to my hair (I really chopped it short), I hated it.

You would think having long hair would be a lot more work than short hair, but that is NOT the case! When it’s long, I can just throw it up in a bun or a ponytail, but when it’s short, I have no choice but to fix it. Plus when you have naturally curly hair, you need the weight of long hair– when it’s short, it is just one big frizz ball.

So maybe after my last trip in July I will go for something different. Maybe a different color? Can you see me as a red head?

Another thing that I am loving right now is getting ready for Easter. I was watching my friend’s little girl the other day, and since the unnamed child has long gotten rid of any of her toys, I was finding it difficult to entertain her. So we decided to make some little Easter baskets.

Since I wasn’t prepared for crafting, I had to make do with supplies I had on hand. I found some poster board and crepe paper and knew that would work.

Parisian Painted Side Table

Happy Hump Day everyone!

It’s a pretty gloomy, rainy day here, but I planned on staying inside to paint anyway.

I’m going to put a roast on the stove and stay in my comfy painting sweats — and may even take a few snuggle breaks with the pups now and then.

I’ve been starting to bring my laptop into my studio while I work, and I have been watching some movies on Netflix. I don’t spend a lot of time picking them out, so I have just been randomly clicking on movies and hoping for the best.

Let me tell you … there are a lot of terrible movies out there, and I have seen three of them in just the past week. If you ever think about watching Rachael Getting Married, Best Man Down or The Kids Are All Right, I have three words for you: Don’t Do It. They were absolutely terrible. In fact Rachael Getting Married (an Anne Hathaway movie) is one of the worst I have ever seen. I actually shut it off halfway through it, and I NEVER do that.

Just thought I would save you from the 2 hours you will never get back.

Striped Easter Rabbit Silhouette

As you all know I have been a little behind on the Easter decor since I have been getting ready to open my new furniture space. Topher and I have been running around like crazy people painting, driving back and forth, and hauling all my pieces down there.

The good news is it opens today!! It is called RElove All Things Shabby and is at 515 N Woodlawn, at the corner of Central and Woodlawn for all of you locals. You will know mine right away as it is the turquoise striped booth (I will try to show you pictures tomorrow).

The space has 10 different vendors with everything from furniture, to homemade candles and jewelry. There are some really talented ladies that have all worked their behinds off to get this off the ground. I hope some of you can stop by!
